Description

Written by Marianne Celano, Marietta Collins, and Ann Hazzard. Illustrated by Jennifer Zivion Something Happened in Our Town. A child's story about racial injustice. The book is designed for children ages 4 to 8 and focuses on bias, and injustice against African Americans. In addition to modeling conversations about race, this book provides messages of acceptance, empowerment, and positive community support. This book is just one of the many resources available Seattle Children's Anti-Racism Discussion Series of 2020. This new series for workforce members aims to facilitate formal and informal discussion on being anti-racist. Each month, we will announce a theme and provide a list of resources (books, articles, podcasts, TED Talks, Children’s books, movies, etc.) for staff who are interested in learning more about the topic. We hope staff members will engage with whichever media best suits their preferences and available time.
